What's Been Happening the Last 18 Months?

February 1st marks my 18 month Anniversary as Senior Minister at Broadway Church. In that time, it has become clear to me that Spirit is supporting us to do BIG things - and we're going for it! In the past 18th months, the congregation has said YES to:

  • Hiring a new Senior Minister after a year-long process of discernment and search (me).

  • Revising our Beliefs, Employee Handbook, and Constitution.

  • Searching for, purchasing, renovating, and moving into our current building.

  • Departing from our current Constitution and Bylaws to create a new organizational structure.

  • Launched a variety of classes to support Spiritual growth in our community.

  • Showing up for racial and economic justice with MORE2.

  • Welcoming new members!

None of this would have been possible without the long-time members of Broadway Church. It was not an easy decision to sell the building on Broadway. It was not an easy decision to replant the church instead of closing. It was not easy to hire and trust me, a weirdo from San Francisco. You have proven that you can do difficult things. Your faith, creativity, and resilience is an inspiration to all of us who have become part of Broadway Church since 2018. What we are creating today is a testament to your strength and courage.

If you're new to Broadway Church, I invite you to thank this group of people for their continued service: Thressa Newell, Taylor Kent, Carol & Charlie Ramirez, Sheryl Stewart, John Bozarth, Pat Lundgren, Betty & Jim McKeown, Anne & Robert Nellis, Christy & Ken Bowen, Rachel Birdsell, Ruby Brown, Paul Dosh, and the long-time members who departed through circumstance or death.

We are standing in the midst of complexity - honoring all that is past, partnering fiercely with Spirit and each other to live into all that is new. We are ready. We can handle it - together.

Dear Congregation and Friends, Reminder: You are not a problem to be solved. You are a person, a body, that needs love, nourishment, and support. You may have made a mistake, but you are not a mistak
