We are just ten short days away from Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. This year, we are honoring Maundy Thursday with Crossroads Church and Trinity United Methodist Church, and Good Friday with Crossroads Church.
Do you know the significance of these days? Let's refresh our memories:
Palm Sunday
One week before Easter, Palm Sunday commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. This Sunday is also often referred to as Passion Sunday, marking the beginning of the passion or suffering of Jesus leading to and including the crucifixion.
Maundy Thursday
The English word "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment." This day commemorates Jesus's last day with his disciples, when he washed their feet and shared a last meal with them. Jesus also gave a new commandment to love one another as Jesus had loved them (John 13:34). This night is the origin of our modern Communion ritual.
Good Friday
The Friday before Easter on which the crucifixion of Jesus is remembered. Good Friday services focus upon prayer and reflection on the death of Christ.
Will you be joining me for in observance of Holy Week?
